WHAT IS SHADOW HEARTS: COVENANT?

Shadow Hearts: Covenant is the third instalment in the Shadow Hearts series (the first two being Koudelka and Shadow Hearts, the next one being Shadow Hearts: From the New World). The series has not achieved massive success in the Western world, sadly, and is mostly unknown. Shadow Hearts: Covenant is a wickedly funny game that manages to completely satire and send up the mainstream RPG while still maintaining a deep, serious and intelligent plot.

NICOLAI CONRAD?

Nicolai Conrad is one of the main characters of Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Despite the fact that he's a white mage and is depicted in several pieces as being in the centre (which would indicate that he's the main character), he is actually one of the three major villains, and recurs right until near the end of the game. He is a Cardinal, sent with Karin Koenig to help her exorcise the demon of Domremy, however he had his own sinister intentions from the start. He is briefly a playable character at the beginning of the game.

GALAHAD?

For the brief time you have him in your party, you can see that Nicolai's weapon is Galahad's Sword. This is a reference to the Arthurian knight Galahad.

WHY?

Although he's the bad guy, I always found Nicolai to be interesting. I was sad when he left my party and hoped throughout the game that he'd miraculously rejoin ^^; The idea of an evil white mage is so weird and amusing, he looks so cool and he's quite complex. I found him to be a really good character.
